Jubilate and Excelsis
Fishbourne Church has a group of singers, known as ‘Jubilate’ and a growing instrumental group called ‘Excelsis’, from which we draw to provide a strong lead in music that is fitting for each service. The weekly practices are focused on the next Sunday service, followed by rehearsing music for future use.
Broadly, the first and third Sunday mornings and all evening services, except the first Sunday evening, use traditional choral music. The second and fourth Sunday mornings use more modern worship songs. Excelsis currently plays on the fourth Sunday morning.
Music in our church is fully inclusive. Whether you are in the back pews, in the choir stalls, playing an instrument or even occupying the rector’s stall, we are all equally responsible for the quality of our musical output.
There are opportunities for those who would like to sing or play but can not do so regularly week in week out. Choral part music, for those who wish to sing it, will be prepared over a slightly longer timescale. Singers and players are warmly invited to join these two groups and commit to attending whichever practices and services suit your musical interests and availability.
All members of Jubilate will be able to participate in the Royal School of Church Music training scheme, Voices For Life, which is a graduated and assessed course in singing, general musicianship and the place of the musician in the church context. Voices for Life fits in with other qualifications and awards schemes outside the church environment, making Jubilate an attractive all round educational prospect, especially for junior singers.
